What is saw palmetto in SodaPeak?
Saw palmetto in SodaPeak is an extract of the fruit of Serenoa repens, a palm. The label reads "Saw Palmetto Extract (Serenoa Repens) Fruit".
It is a traditional remedy for urinary and prostate comfort. That is an odd fit for a bottle whose only claim is "Supports Healthy Muscle*", and the label does not explain why it is there.
It is the third of eight lines, so two lines may outweigh it and five weigh no more than it does.

Label math01
How much saw palmetto is in SodaPeak?
The label does not say. By label order, saw palmetto weighs at most 400 mg per serving of 2 capsules.
The blend lists ingredients from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (Supplement Facts, proprietary blends)). Three lines at 400 mg would already use all 1,200 mg, so line 3 cannot go higher.
An even split would be 150 mg. The real amount sits at or below 400 mg and could be far lower.
Evidence02
Does saw palmetto help the prostate?
Probably not. NCCIH says saw palmetto is probably not helpful for urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate, known as BPH (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto).
A 2023 review of 27 studies found little or no benefit when it was used alone. Two NIH-funded trials, one at a standard dose and one at up to three times that dose, did not improve BPH symptoms. Hexane-extracted products did no better.
Evidence for chronic prostatitis and hair loss was too limited to conclude anything. None of these studies looked at muscle.
| Use | Finding |
|---|---|
| BPH urinary symptoms | Probably not helpful |
| Standard and triple dose | No improvement in two NIH trials |
| Chronic prostatitis, hair loss | Too little evidence |
Prostate tests03
Does saw palmetto change PSA test results?
It does not appear to. NCCIH says saw palmetto does not seem to change PSA readings (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto).
PSA is a protein made by normal and cancerous prostate cells. BPH, prostatitis, a recent biopsy, vigorous exercise like cycling and ejaculation can all raise it (NCI, PSA Test Fact Sheet).
Finasteride and dutasteride, used for BPH, lower PSA, so doctors use a lower cutoff for men on them. Tell your doctor about every supplement before a PSA test.

Can you take saw palmetto with a blood thinner?
Ask your doctor first. Case reports suggest additive bleeding effects with warfarin, other blood thinners and clopidogrel (MSK, Saw Palmetto).
Common side effects are stomach upset, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, lower sex drive and rhinitis, mostly mild. Case reports also describe serious events such as surgical bleeding, blood in the urine, pancreatitis and severe liver damage.
Before surgery
Tell the surgical team, because of the bleeding reports.
Prostate medicines
The Sloan Kettering page gives no guidance on finasteride or hormone drugs. Ask a clinician.
NCCIH adds that it may be unsafe in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Never stop a blood thinner or any other medicine because of a supplement. Call 911 for chest pain or fainting.
Verdict05
Is saw palmetto a good reason to buy SodaPeak?
No. The main use people know it for did not hold up in good trials, and the bottle does not claim it.

FAQ07
SodaPeak questions people ask
Why is saw palmetto in a muscle supplement?
The label does not say. Saw palmetto is a traditional remedy for urinary and prostate comfort, and nothing we read shows an effect on muscle (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto). Its place in a blend is a seller choice.
How much saw palmetto is in SodaPeak?
The label prints no amount. By label order it is at most 400 mg per serving of 2 capsules, since three lines at 400 mg would use the whole 1,200 mg blend (21 CFR 101.36 (Supplement Facts, proprietary blends)).
Is saw palmetto effective for an enlarged prostate?
Probably not. NCCIH says it is probably not helpful for BPH urinary symptoms, and a 2023 review of 27 studies found little or no benefit when used alone (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto).
Does saw palmetto lower PSA?
It does not appear to change PSA readings (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto). Finasteride and dutasteride do lower PSA, so tell your doctor about both before a test (NCI, PSA Test Fact Sheet).
Does saw palmetto thin the blood?
Case reports suggest additive bleeding effects with warfarin, other blood thinners and clopidogrel (MSK, Saw Palmetto). That is not proof, but it is why a doctor should know about it.
Should I stop saw palmetto before surgery?
Ask your surgeon. Case reports describe surgical bleeding with saw palmetto (MSK, Saw Palmetto). Tell the surgical team about SodaPeak and every other supplement well before the date.
Does saw palmetto lower sex drive?
It can, in some people. Lower sex drive appears among its common, mostly mild side effects, with stomach upset, headache and fatigue (MSK, Saw Palmetto).
